Eyeball Parable

His eyeballs kept falling from his head
      made popping noises
corneas dangling from stalks
     he tried to shove them
     back into their sockets
& was alarmed that they wouldn’t fit
      they had grown larger
to take in the wider world
       unfettered by lashes
  as if the eyeballs
whites & irises & all
were pupils unto themselves
